Bedourie's Mud Hut was once a private residence. It was situated opposite the Royal Hotel and was constructed of rammed earth and timber.
The exterior walls remain intact; the northern wall with more recent aperture dating from the time the building was used as a bar when the Royal Hotel was temporarily out of commission.
In the early days Bedourie was used as a stopover for drovers pushing their cattle down to the markets in Adelaide. It is believed that the Mud Hut may have operated as a Cobb & Co rest stop due to the remains of a horse yard out back, and an old horse trough which can be found in the bed of Eyre Creek.
The Mud hut was bought from Jean Smith -owner of the Royal Hotel- in 2001 and has subsequently been re-furbished.
With its earthen floors and high roof the building provides a cool space, surrounded by verandahs. Where once there was a thatched roof, now there is iron, supported on exposed boughs.
