The striking colours and landscapes of the Simpson Desert attract many people from all over the world to visit and experience the harsh conditions of the very remote and arid desert.

The Simpson Desert occupies about 200, 000 square kilometres of central Australia, mostly in the south-east of the Northern Territory. The desert landscape is dominated by parallel, windblown sand dunes up to 20 metres high. They're spaced approximately1 kilometre apart and may reach a length of 200 kilometres.
