Unlike most other small, isolated rural communities the Diamantina Shire have seen a gradual increase in both business activity and population.
Over the past ten years the population has increase from 246 to 332 people. An increase of almost 4% pa. Over this period of time tradespersons such as carpenters, plumber, electricians, mechanics and boilermakers have all established themselves within the community.
Due to the population increase in recent years, our towns can offer new modern homes from 1 bedroom to 3 bedrooms. While the schooling in each town is only to year 7, the facilities and amenities are of an exceptional standard.
The recent introduction of untimed local calls and high-speed two-way Internet satellites has opened the horizons for any business to establish them within our shire.
Council has recently opened industrial subdivisions in both towns and land packages are available for organisation or individuals interested in establishing operations in out shire. The first 5 lots of a 50 lot residential subdivision in Birdsville has recently been completed and further works are likely in the next twelve months.
Planning is presently progressing on the extensions to the Birdsville Wirrarri Information Centre to cater for the ever-increasing visitors to the Shire. To assist in tourism ventures, a new information centre, library and coffee shop is being planned for Bedourie. Located on the Shire block of a soon to be restored genuine Mud House, this centre will offer new opportunities for businesses in Bedourie.
Extensions are also starting on the Bedourie Caravan Park. It is council's vision that this caravan park and swimming pool complex will in the future be leased as one complex. Artesian spa water is popular with visitors seeking therapeutic relief and the combined complex is expected to be an ideal business opportunity.
There are business opportunities available for people willing to relocate to the Diamantina Shire, provided they following our motto "Sustainably developing the outback".
