Roads - One of the major activities of our Shire is construction and maintenance of 700 km of state controlled roads and 1100 km of local shire roads. As at June 2003, only 90km of these roads were bitumen.
	To assist with road activities, Council owns $13M worth of plant. This includes graders, loaders, rollers, prime movers, side-tipping trailers, water tanks, scraper, concrete batching plant and agitator. Plant utilisation and reliability are important performance measures that are reported monthly to Council.
	Parks & Gardens - Visitors generally access the shire via long distances of gravel roads. It is generally a pleasant surprise to find that Bedourie and Birdsville have many modern and new amenities and facilities. Grass and trees make a splendid contrasting backdrop to the red sand dunes.
