Birdsville Home to the renowned Birdsville Hotel, the famous Birdsville Races and the Birdsville Track. Birdsville is a town full of surprises often referred to as Australia’s isolated town which is situated on the edge of the sands of the Simpson Desert to the west, the vast gibber plains of Sturt’s Stony desert to the South and the rich Channel Country to the North. The town is only 12 kilometres from the South Australian Border. Now and always noted for its wild country and isolation, Birdsville offers today’s traveler a modern community, with a sporting complex, a commendable bakery, art galleries, air services, hotel, motel and cabin accommodation, caravan park, restaurant, general store, medical clinic, fuel, auto services (no autogas facilities are available) and police station. EFTPOS and ATM facilities are also available throughout the town. Birdsville’s pastoral tradition continues today, and is a town of cultural mecca for those interested in experiencing the real Australia. Voted as Queensland’s Friendliest Town in 2005, you’ll meet the characters of the outback brimming with hospitality and personality.
