Tourism Officer - Birdsville

Council is seeking an enthusiastic person to join our experienced staff at the Wirrarri Visitor Information Centre in Birdsville.  The Wirrarri Centre is the focal point for locals and tourists and hosts the Library and Gallery.  This position is a fulltime position for 7 months during the tourist season (April to October).

You will need to be organised, have great customer service   and possess excellent computer skills.  Previous experience in a similar role would be highly regarded.  This is an excellent opportunity for you to develop your knowledge and experience within the tourist sector at an iconic destination.

If you are an excellent communicator and are able to work independently you are encouraged to apply. 

The base weekly wage for this position,  in accordance with the Queensland Local Government Industry Award State - 2017, is $734.  Council also pays an above Award payment of 20% of your base wage and locality allowance of either $147.05 per week or $73.53 per week depending on your circumstances. 

You will be entitled to six weeks' annual leave and a comfortable home will be available for rent in Birdsville at subsidised rental.

Children's Services Facilitator

Council is seeking a motivated person to take on the position of Children’s Services Facilitator, based in Birdsville. The Children’s Services Facilitator is required to plan and coordinate regular structured child focussed activities for children aged up to 8 years including; Playgroup sessions, group eKindy sessions, Kids Club, and occasional specific activities such as literacy programs, and nutrition education. 

This position is a parttime maximum term position for 15hrs/week and finishing on 30 June 2018. 

The base hourly rate for this position is $22,90/hr.  Council also pays an above Award payment of 20% of your base wage and locality allowance of either $147.05 per week or $73.53 per week depending on your circumstances. 

You will be entitled to six weeks' annual leave and a comfortable home will be available for rent in Birdsville at subsidised rental. 

The successful applicant will need to have a current Working with Children - Blue Card.

Apprentice Diesel Mechanic

We are now recruiting for a full time Apprentice Diesel Mechanic to be based at our Bedourie Workshop. If successful you will achieve the Nationally recognised qualification MEM30205 - Certificate III in Engineering - Diesel Fitting. This is a 48 month full time apprenticeship.

Council also pays an above Award payment of 20% of your base wage and a Remote Area allowance of either $32.20 per day worked or $16.10 per day worked depending on your circumstances.

Tourism and Event Manager

Council is seeking a Tourism and Events Manager to manage the key services of tourism development, events development and management, marketing and promotion, visitor information services, and community services. The role will actively work towards the achievement of operational and corporate planning objectives, while monitoring and responding to daily operational demands.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer the successful applicant will require demonstrated experience at a senior level in the tourism industry along with strong negotiation, leadership and communication skills. This role will have particular emphasis on promoting and developing tourism strategies in the shire and providing executive event management support to iconic events such as the Birdsville Races and Big Red Bash along with various community groups and clubs.  Being digitally literate is highly desireable.

This is a contract position and an attractive package commensurate with the successful applicants experience, skills and qualifications will be negotiated. A total package value of $170,000 including salary, housing and vehicle benefits should be used as a guide.
