Bedourie's heritage listed Mud Hut was once a private residence is situated opposite the Bedourie Royal Hotel and is constructed of rammed earth and timber. The exterior walls remain intact, the northern wall with more recent aperture dating from the time the building was used as a bar when the Royal Hotel was temporarily out of commission.
In the early days, Bedourie was used as a stopover for drovers pushing their cattle down to the markets in Adelaide. It is believed that the Mud Hut may have operated as a Cob & Co rest stop due to the remains of a horse yard out the back.
The Diamantina Shire Council purchased the Mud Hut from Mrs Jean Smith, the owner of the Royal Hotel in 2001. It has since been restored. With its earthern floors and high roof, the building provides a cool space surrounded by verandahs. Where once there was a thatched roof, now there is iron supported on exposed boughs.
