Rates A PRIMARY SOURCE OF FUNDING Rate revenue is a primary source of funding for the provision of services, facilities, programs, activities and capital works in the Diamantina Shire. You could be charged a general rate or a minimum general rate, depending on where you live in the shire or what services you receive. On your rates notice you are also charged for services that are separate to your rates which could include Sewerage, Garbage Collection and Water. The Council allows no rebates or concessions to Pensioners in connection with rates. The assistance available to Pensioners for rates is under the State Government Pensioner Subsidy Scheme. To apply for this, Pensioners must complete an application form from Council and provide proof of Pensioner status. Rates Notices are sent out on a date appointed by Council, this is normally at the start of every financial year. When paying your rates Council will grant a discount of 15% if paid in full by the due date. For notification of these dates please review your Rates Notice or contact the Council office.
