A 24-hour Local Fire Ban has been declared for the Channel Country

Hot, dry and windy conditions are expected across the district, with fresh northwesterly winds ahead of a strong and gusty southwesterly change during the afternoon.
No fires may be lit in the open during the fire ban. Please exercise caution and take all necessary steps to prevent fires. Weather warnings can be monitored via Council's Disaster Dashboard disaster.diamantina.qld.gov.au

Adelaide Street & Burt Street Rehabilitation Works in Birdsville

Council wishes to advise residents, businesses and road users that road rehabilitation works will be undertaken on Adelaide Street and Burt Street in Birdsville commencing 9 October 2026 and continuing for approximately two (2) months, weather permitting. Temporary road closures and detours will be in place during this time.

Council maintains over 1,659 kilometres of roads, the majority being dirt or gravel.
