Developed under Queensland’s disaster management framework, the plan focuses on local resilience—keeping people safe, protecting our towns and environment, and supporting recovery after an event. It brings together council, emergency services, community groups, and government agencies to coordinate efforts before, during, and after a disaster.
Through strong local leadership and community cooperation, the Diamantina Shire is committed to being prepared, informed, and resilient—whatever the future brings.

The Cuttaburra Missing Link project is about keeping our communities connected, safe and strong. By sealing a 16-kilometre stretch of the Eyre Developmental Road between Bedourie and Birdsville, this project will reduce flood disruptions, improve road safety, and support local jobs, tourism and agriculture. It’s a vital step towards ensuring year-round access for residents, visitors and freight — helping our region stay open for opportunity and growth.

Diamantina Shire Council has released its Drinking Water Quality Management Plan (DWQMP) Annual Report for 2024–2025, outlining how Council manages the safety and quality of drinking water in Bedourie and Birdsville. The report details monitoring results, risk management actions, and compliance with regulatory requirements across the financial year.
Council continues to operate two artesian bore water schemes, with both towns relying on cooling as the only treatment step. Water quality remained stable throughout the year, with no E.coli detections recorded in either scheme, demonstrating compliance with public health regulations.
Council also progressed several improvements under its Risk Management Improvement Program, completed the installation of the new Birdsville bore, and undertook updates to its DWQMP following a 2025 review. No customer complaints regarding water quality were received during the period.

Diamantina Shire Council is sharing the Birdsville Fluoride Fact Sheet(PDF, 333KB) to provide the community with clear, reliable information about fluoride in Birdsville’s drinking water. This document explains why fluoride is used, how levels are managed and monitored, and what it means for public health, particularly dental health. We encourage residents to read the fact sheet to better understand the water treatment process and to support informed, confident decision-making about our local water supply
