Audit and Risk Committee
Purpose
The Audit and Risk Committee serves as an independent forum where Council representatives, independent specialists and management collaborate to fulfil specific governance responsibilities outline in the Committee's Term of Reference.
This internal governance function aims to enhance the organisation's performance, playing a crucial role in helping the Council the following:
- Financial Reporting
- Internal Control Systems
- Risk Management
- Legal and Regulatory Compliance
- Audit Function
Operating solely in an advisory capacity, the Audit and Risk Committee ensure regular communication with the Council regarding its activities. Importantly, the Committee's role does not diminish the responsibilities of management or individual Councillors.
As part of the Council's committee to advancing local government practices, the Terms of Reference include an obligation for the committee to progressively develop its skills.

Membership
The Audit and Risk Committee comprise of two Council nominated Councillors and two external members, including the Independent Chair. Pursuant to the Local Government Regulation 2012 (Qld), at least one committee member must have significant experience and skills in financial matters.
