Children and Family Services
Diamantina Shire Council Children's Services
Programs run through this service are directed to families with children 0 – 8 years of age, most particularly those children in the early childhood years. The activities offered aim to provide support to parents raising children in isolation, and facilitate the social interaction of both parents and children with others at similar stages and ages.
Playgroups
Both Bedourie and Birdsville have well equipped playgroups, which are available to accompanied children in the early childhood years. These groups meet several times a week in the shire hall of each town. A facilitator is employed to coordinate the program in each town.
School Holiday Activities
Activites aimed at children and youth are periodically offered in the school holiday periods depending on demand.

Primary Schools
Both Bedourie and Birdsville have excellent State Schools offering modern education for children from Prep to Year 6. Children on properties within the Shire use the services of the School of the Air or a Governess. After Year 6, children typically go to Boarding Schools in Townsville, Longreach, Charters Towers, Toowoomba, Warwick, Brisbane or Adelaide.
Kindy
Both of the Shire's schools are currently part of the kindergarten pilot program. Kindy is offered 5 day a fortnight.
