Bedourie Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) Bursary program

Are you under 25 and living in the Diamantina Shire? 
You could be eligible for funding through the Bedourie Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) Bursary program!

On 10 August 2022, Council received correspondence from the then Bedourie Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) notifying that it was winding up proceedings and that the BAC Board resolved to distribute its remaining funds to Council, to be held in trust. Council agreed to manage the BAC Legacy bursary program in recognition of the wishes of the former BAC and will administer the bursary program in line with these guidelines adopted by Council.

Who can apply for a grant?

You must be a permanent resident, a community organisation or club within the Diamantina Shire Council (DSC) area, or an individual/group representing the area by performing, competing or presenting at district, state, national or international competitions, conferences or events AND be or be representing individuals or groups under the age of 25 years.

Funding Available:
  • Up to $350 for individuals representing the Diamantina Shire at competition or event level in Queensland.
  • Up to $500 for those representing Queensland at a national competition or event or who have won at a state level and are competing in a national competition.
  • Up to $1,000 for individuals representing Australia at an international competition or event level.
  • Up to $2,000 for not-for-profit community organisations or clubs for sporting and/or cultural events, performances, or representation.

Retrospective applications are accepted up to 60 days after the event (justification and evidence required).

POLICY STATEMENT

Council agrees to manage the BAC Legacy bursary program in recognition of the wishes of the former BAC and will administer the bursary program in line with these guidelines adopted by Council.

All applications will be assessed against eligibility and assessment criteria as stated in this policy and the program guidelines.

The provision of grants under this program will be stand-alone and are not subject to or influenced by other grants or donations etc.

1.5 ELIGIBILITY

In order to submit an application under the BAC Bursary program, the applicant must be:

  • A permanent resident of the Diamantina Shire Council (DSC) area: or
  • A community organisation or club that is a not-for-profit incorporated organisation located within the DSC area; or
  • A group or individual representing the Council area by performing, competing or presenting at district, state, national or international competitions, conferences or events; and
  • Be or be representing individuals or groups under the age of 25 years.

2. BAC BURSARY GUIDELINES

2.1 GRANT CRITERIA

2.1.1 The applicant must be based within the DSC boundaries.

2.1.2 Retrospective applications up to 60 days from the event date may be funded to cover costs already incurred, if appropriate justification and evidence can be provided.

2.2 DONATION LIMITS

2.2.1 Amounts of up to $350 will be available for individuals selected to represent the area of DSC at competition or event level within Queensland.

2.2.2 Amounts of up to $500 will be available for individuals selected to represent Queensland in a national competition or event; .or who have won at a state level and are competing in a national competition.

2.2.3 Amounts of up to $1,000 will be available for individuals selected to represent Australia at an international competition or event level.

2.2.4 Amounts of up to $2,000 will be available for not-for-profit community organisations or clubs for small amounts of assistance for sporting/cultural, events/performances or representation to be awarded in accordance with this policy and guidelines.

2.3 NOTIFICATION OF OUTCOME

Successful applicants should agree to notify Council of the outcome of the event, activity etc for Council records.
