Appointment of Diamantina Shire Council's New Chief Executive Officer
Julianne Meier has been named as the Diamantina Shire Council’s new Chief Executive Officer after a nationwide search for the person to lead the organisation into its exciting future.
Mayor Francis Murray is pleased to announce the appointment after an extensive recruitment over the past months:
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Julianne as our new Chief Executive Officer. Julianne will officially commence her work in this critical role on 9 October 2024, on a four-year performance-based contract. Julianne looks forward to this incredible opportunity to work in this pivotal role for our community.
We attracted a large field, but despite tough opposition from other high-quality candidates, Julianne impressed the panel with her mature approach and obvious energy, knowledge, experience and drive for the Diamantina community and role."
Julianne brings over 16 years of extensive experience in local government, having held key leadership roles across Queensland, including in Hughenden, Cooktown, and Normanton. Raised on a small property west of Hughenden, Julianne has a deep connection to rural life and communities.
“I find the country lifestyle and hospitality most welcoming,” she says. “Coming from a family of six children, my mother taught us in a classroom on the property, and we would have the books delivered by mail truck. It wasn't until later in life that I was able to look back at my childhood and appreciate the value of life offered by rural living.”
After earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Southern Queensland, Julianne entered local government in Hughenden 16 years ago. She quickly rose through the ranks, serving as Finance Manager in Cooktown and Director of Corporate Services in Normanton in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Throughout her career, Julianne has forged strong relationships within the communities she has served, actively contributing to local events. “Many friendships have been formed during my time in these communities, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed helping out at various events. I’m very excited to embark on a new journey in my career at Diamantina Shire and look forward to working with the team and meeting the community.”
Julianne’s extensive background in local government and her genuine passion for rural communities position her as a strong leader for the Diamantina Shire Council, guiding the region toward a bright and sustainable future.
