Exciting New Leadership for Diamantina Shire Council

Diamantina Shire Council is pleased to announce the appointment of two key leadership positions within the organisation. Following an extensive recruitment process, CEO Julianne Meier is excited to welcome Patrice Brandenburg-Wallace as Director Communities and William (Garth) Borgelt as Director Infrastructure Services. 
 

Director Communities – Patrice Brandenburg-Wallace

Patrice brings 22 years of experience in major and minor events, operations management, and expertise in risk management, work health and safety, traffic control, and logistical planning. 

Patrice has previously held roles including Head of Operations at Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum, Principal Specialist – Major Events at Bundaberg Regional Council, and Event Operations Manager at the National Folk Festival. Additionally, she has served as Tourism Manager at Diamantina Shire Council, where she developed strong relationships with key tourism stakeholders, including Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) and Outback Queensland Tourism Association (OQTA). 

Patrice holds an Advanced Diploma of Live Production (Theatre & Events) and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Emergency Management with Charles Sturt University. Her work has significantly contributed to promoting Birdsville as a premier tourism destination, including an application into the Queensland Tourism Awards.  Patrice has also been instrumental in bringing the Desert Champions Way: Outback Camel Trail to the region. 

Director Infrastructure Services – William (Garth) Borgelt 
William (Garth) Borgelt has been appointed Director Infrastructure Services and will commence on 7th April. Garth is an accomplished executive manager with 28 years of experience leading infrastructure construction and maintenance projects in remote regions across Queensland and the Northern Territory. 

Garth’s expertise covers a broad range of infrastructure services, including water and waste systems, roads, buildings, fleet management, power generation, pipelines, telemetry and communications, and renewable energy solutions. He has a proven track record of delivering major infrastructure projects and implementing effective maintenance strategies. 

Garth’s qualifications include a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Edith Cowan University, a Diploma of Company Directorship from the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Certificate in Electronics from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), and a Radio Technical Officer Certificate from the Bureau of Meteorology. 

Diamantina Shire Council’s CEO Julianne Meier expressed her enthusiasm for the appointments, stating, “We are thrilled to have Patrice and Garth join our leadership team. Their wealth of experience and industry knowledge will be invaluable in advancing the Council’s strategic objectives and delivering vital services to our community. Please join me in welcoming them both to the team.”
