Resupply of Essential Items
During a natural disaster, the Queensland Government will assist isolated individuals with the resupply of essential goods, including food and medical supplies. Isolated properties may include primary producers and smaller towns or outstations that cannot access retail facilities to maintain sufficient levels of essential goods.
Resupply in the Diamantina
When the roads are closed, we can only resupply essential items, which include fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, bread, and pet food. Coke, cigarettes, chips, and bottled water are not considered essential items. The space in the plane is limited, and the cost of flying in supplies is expensive, so hence, essential items only.
- Coles On-Line or Click and Collect will not be available - this is because the Government Guideline allows the supply to local businesses, not individuals. This is because the logistics would be too difficult to manage.
- Food and essential items can be ordered and purchased from the Birdsville and Bedourie Roadhouses.
- Mental health assistance is available, through Clinics and Head to Health – call 1800 595 212 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM) to speak with a professional and get connected to the right support. www.heathtohealth.gov.au
- Take care in flood waters: people involved with flood recovery and response work may be exposed to infection risks from contact with contaminated floodwater, soil and mud. Infection risks from flood recovery and response work | WorkSafe.qld.gov.au
- Station resupply is being coordinated through the Local Disaster Management Group. Weekly supplies are encouraged. For all resupply inquiries, please contact Lorelle Hatch on 0407 231 694 or email lorelle.hatch@diamantina.qld.gov.au
- School Holidays
The Government does not fly children back in from boarding school,
so families will need to make their own arrangements.
Resupply of Medications
E-scripts can be filled by contacting a Chemist in Mount Isa, and then we can arrange for the medication to be flown in on the REX plane.
If you normally get your scripts filled and flown in from Charleville please order from your regular supplier as usual.
Give Lorelle Hatch (Director of People and Governance)
a call on 0407 231 694
or email lorelle.hatch@diamantina.qld.gov.au
and she will help you arrange the pick-up and delivery of your medications.
When ordering your medications online from Chemist Warehouse etc. make sure you complete the Dangerous Goods section, otherwise, your medications will not go on the plane.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Support – Help is Available!
During times of stress and uncertainty, it's okay to reach out for help. No matter your age, you are not alone. There are services available 24/7 to support you or someone you care about. Whether you need a listening ear, crisis support, or ongoing mental health care, help is just a call or click away.
Many people and communities across the Diamantina have been impacted by flood events in some way. Seeking support early is always a good idea when we are feeling worried or stressed—especially in difficult times.

- Do not approach, crowd around, or try to catch lost livestock – they may be frightened and disoriented.
- For sick or injured animals or livestock, contact your nearest vet.
