Nominate Now For The 2025 Australia Day Awards
The Australia Day Award invites Diamantina Shire residents to nominate individuals or groups who have made significant contributions to the local community in the following categories:
- Citizen of the Year: For individuals 26 years or older who have contributed notably over the current or past years.
- Young Citizen of the Year: For those under 26 with notable community contributions.
- Senior Sports Person/Sports Administrator: For those over 18 with achievements or significant contributions in sports.
- Junior Sports Award: For individuals under 18 with achievements in sports.
- Community Event of the Year: For events enhancing the cultural life of the community.
Nominations close on December 15 at 5:00 pm, and Awards will be presented to recipients at a special Australia Day Ceremony in Bedourie on Sunday 26 January 2025.

Award Categories & Eligibility
Citizen of the Year Award
Open to individuals aged 26 or older as of January 26 in the award year. Nominees should have made a significant contribution during the current year and/or provided outstanding service to the local community over multiple years.
Young Citizen of the Year Award
For individuals under 26 as of January 26 in the award year. Nominees should have made a notable contribution in the current year and/or demonstrated outstanding service to the community over several years.
Senior Sports Person / Sports Administrator Award
Eligible to those aged 18 or older as of January 26 in the award year. This award recognizes individuals with an impressive record of sporting achievements or those who have made a meaningful impact on sports as a coach, official, or administrator.
Junior Sports Award
For individuals under 18 as of January 26 in the award year. This award honors young people with an outstanding record of achievement in sports.
Community Event of the Year
Recognizes an event held within the council area that has contributed significantly to the cultural life of the local community or achieved outstanding cultural impact. The event must have taken place since the last Australia Day Awards (within the past two years).
